Butterfly Boxes

Hi everyone,

I work three days a week as a pastoral carer or chaplain at a hospital.  Every year, along with other staff, we hold an annual memorial service for the patients who suffered a loss of their baby during the last year.  We start with a theme and build on that.  There is always a gift for the patients to take home.

This particular year we chose butterflies, which is the symbol for reproductive loss at the hospital.  So this year we made 60 felt
butterflies which were all hand blanket stitched. About 7 staff
members helped. Some had not hand sewn before.   Others had not sewn since school days.  We also made 60 boxes with mainly retired Designer Series Paper and attached a 2 piece butterfly to each box.   In the last photo you can see there are butterflies attached to a ivy aviary.  We also made 160 2 piece butterflies to peg to the ivy.

A lot of work.  It was all worth it.  The patients loved our handmade gifts and knew that a lot of love, reflection, and thought went into these gifts this year.

Blessings
